Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, office of the Chairman Senate Committee on Environment, has counseled the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) to make certain judicious administration of its financial allotment of 2016 budget.
The news took place when the Senator gave this counsel while members of her committee were on an oversight duty to the agency on Tuesday, in Abuja.
She said that the intent of the visit was to acquaint themselves with the staff and administration of the agency.
Furthermore, Senator Oluremi Tinubu represents Lagos Central Senatorial District said the call was also an opportunity to encourage the agency to be more conscientious and focused in its processes.
Sen. Tinubu said that the visit was essentially to ascertain and proffer solutions to challenges that were over the agency`s control and were affecting its service delivery.
In her own words, she said “we need to work together to enable the agency achieve its goals and objectives.”
That “NESREA has been with us and we will continue to encourage its effort to enhance better service delivery”
She urged NESREA to work together with related agencies to ensure that it accomplishes its mandate.
She also directed the agency to deliberate with the Federal Minister of Environment on issues affecting them, that the ministry is in a well suited to support the agency.
Speaking earlier, Dr Lawrence Anukam, Director-General of the agency, said that the major challenge of the agency was lack of funds to enhance its operations.
According to him, the office we are using right now is a rented apartment and the agency cannot even afford to pay for the rent, we need a stable office.
