The Ibibio Youth Federation have restated the tribe’s unwavering support for Presiden Goodluck Jonathan and warned the Akwa Ibom Governor, Godswill Akpabio against further fanning the flames of hatred between the Ibibio and the President. A statement issued in Abuja by the group’s leader Mike Achaempong, observed that governor Akpabio has been going round the South-South states and campaigning that the entire Ibibio race is not in support of President Jonathan. ” We wish to reiterate the unwavering support of the entire Ibibio race to President Jonathan’s administration and to the president as a person contrary to Mr Akpabio’s latest unprovoked campaign of calumny against us,” Achaempong said in the statement. The group warned Governor Akpabio to desist from ridiculing the Ibibio race, saying as a tribe, the Ibibio remains solidly behind the president and his aspiration anyday. “We voted massively for President Jonathan in the past and we shall do the same for him again and always,” the group said. The youths said it is unfortunate that Governor Akpabio should single out an entire race in Akwa Ibom state for such treatment that according to them, is unstatesmanlike. “We urge the president to dis countenance any suggestion from Akpabio or from whatever quarter that the Ibibio race is against him as a person or his administration or political aspiration. The president should instead count on the Ibibio support anytime he choose to represent himself for reelection,” the group said.
