#EdoDecides: Oyegun Contested Polling Unit With Igbenedion, Ize-Iyamu Families

Facts have emerged why the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun lost his polling unit (Oredo Ward 2, Unit 1) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Wednesday’s 2016 Edo State governorship election.

The PDP won the polling unit by 9 votes (APC – 69, PDP – 78).

The polling unit houses the large and prominent Igbenedion and Ize-Iyamu families who are staunch PDP stalwarts and have Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the PDP governorship candidate.

#APCFactChecker analysis show that it is demographically impossible for Odigie-Oyegun to win in the polling unit where he casted his vote. Odigie-Oyegun has to contend with the large families of Igbenedion and Ize-Iyamu who reside in the area. Naturally, their friends and associates will vote for the PDP who in any case has Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the PDP governorship candidate. Apart from these families, the Government Reserved Area where the polling unit is located houses offices, business outfits and golf courses. Odigie-Oyegun and his family only stay in the house when they are in Benin.

#APCFactChecker also report that Odigie-Oyegun and his wife voted in different polling units. APC won in the polling unit his wife voted.

“The true test of Odigie-Oyegun’s popularity is in Edo South Senatorial zone which houses his Bini ethnic stock. APC won Edo South including Oredo Local Government Area. Infact, I can report that APC is also leading in 13 local governments in Edo state. PDP has won 3 LGAs. So the bottomline is that the APC National Chairman delivered his state and particularly Edo south, home to his Bini ethnic stock.” a source in the APC Edo State Governorship Election Situation Room disclosed.
