Catholic bishops under the auspices of the Catholic Bishops of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province have berated the Federal Government over its handling of the crisis between herdsmen and farmers in Benue State during which over 70 people were killed.
They also raised the alarm that religious freedom is being threatened in the country and that it appears the government is handicapped in tackling the issue.
This formed part of the communique issued at the end of their meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The communique was signed by the Most Rev. Gabriel Abegunrin (President) and Most Rev John Oyejola (Secretary).
While expressing happiness over the release of Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Sisters kidnapped in Edo State recently, they urged the government to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities in the country.
The group also raised the alarm that some people were pirating Bible and other religious books and even tampering with the contents.
The bishops also warned against giving misleading and false interpretation to religious books, saying it was not only sacrilegious but a great sin.
