Mrs Tarebi Portia Cheetham-West is a famous name in the cake design and interior decoration business in Niger Delta region. Today’s Bride has featured in several ceremonies, including marriages in Niger Delta state and the company is adjust as one of the best cake bakers and event decoration by many clients. She hails from Gbaramatu kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government in Delta state. The CEO Today’s Bride is not just like every other road side cake bakers. Her secret is her artistic touch in cake baking with combination of University and other professional training to have a edge over her peers in the cake business.

Tarebi is a young beautiful and hard working entrepreneur with many talents. She holds an OND in Mass Communication from the Institute of Management and Technology Enugu. She also holds B.sc in adult and community development education University of Rivers State Science and Technology Port-Harcourt.

Her journey to the event decoration is interesting and intriguing. She ventured into the event planning enterprise back in 2005; shortly she graduated from the Mass Communication Institute of Management and Technology Enugu for her industrial training at AIT Port Harcourt. After the completion of her training she sought for a direct entry admission into University of Science and Technology in Port Harcourt.
Instead of being idle at home waiting University admission and loitering the streets like her peers do. She has a big ambition in life as a very industrious young girl. She decided to do something meaningful to her life.

According to her ” The answer was cake and decoration because I am a a very creative person and have a passion for baking cake back then in Enugu because my neighbor Mrs Ijeoma john was into baking and I admired her a lot. I used to feel happy watching her with interest and so decided to help her out in baking even when she didn’t want me to” she told this reporter.

“I enrolled for class at Stella bridals that was how today’s bride came into light with the help of my sister Mrs Juliet Ebitimi Usedamen. When I finally got admitted into UST I was doing the business and school at the same time I managed to buy materials for my work and books. I was able to provide fund for my tuition fees sometimes from cake baking and lots more. It was a very interesting experience and moment.

“I was so focused and decided to go for more training when I was done with studies. Which I did, got contacts in the internet to acquire advance knowledge. I bought magazines, books, saw lovely and creative cakes, watched cake boss on TLC.” she said.

Today’s Bride boss added “I met great cake designers, attended and partake in exhibitions, joined international cake exploration society (ICES) I went for more and more trainings to develop my skills. Now its been good I love the work. People accepted my concepts and commended me for that. Some of my customers came after attending a ceremony decorated and cakes bake d by me. They said” your jobs are good” I feel very happy when I see people complementing my work which give me encouragement. I train people, employ people and I can’t thank God enough. It will surely get better” she is full of hope.

There is no profession devoid of challenges. Tarebi faces one or two challenges in her business. She enumerated absence of constant electricity as a major challenge facing her business” I face challenges, there a alot of them in the event industry as it grows very fast now in Nigeria everybody is going into the business. I work hard to put my colleagues on edge as it becomes so competitive.
Electricity is a huge challenge for me .Sometimes, I gathered my profit in fueling my generating set. It is very depressing and discouraging when you gathered all your profit to buy petrol to run your generator to be in business.

The mother of two had had the opportunity to selected in cake design exhibitions both international and local ones. According to her, ” The criteria for the exhibition was for those with creative minds. Its is open for all. cake display was for people that can design elegant cakes.Yes the best cake display was awarded to one Mrs Doris Orumwese, the winner for the 2015 cake exhibition held In Port-Harcourt. She was awarded with lots gifts. The organizers are Cavos craft”

How does her company give out various prices to clients or is price fixed for clients? our reporter inquired . She said “Our price is based on many factors like what the client wants, the location, the clients expertise or values and the market values. In most cases, the personality in question determines our pricing which affect our price as they demand special order. As for my price generally, they are moderate, negotiable and affordable. We give our clients value for their money in our services by giving standard professional services with quality”

The CEO Today’s bride has words of advice for her fans and clients “My advice to my client and fans is to have confident in working with us as a professional team. My staff are cordial and well trained who offer professional services to our clients. I want to advise my clients that they should making their booking in advance to enable us to give them the best service which they will make waoo when they see their cakes and events. We plan events, marriage such professional MC, in planning, we sit with you to make your budget, the difference range of flavours we offer and colours to create their cake and decoration”

She said further “Again, I want to advice that people do not need University Certificate to start this business. I mean, you do not necessarily go to university before you become a cake maker or event decorator. You can start from small, just be creative, diligent, honest, focused, patient, consistent, transparent and have faith in God”
