Re: Former MKO Abiola’s running mate, Amb. Babagana Kingibe allegedly receives $2m from Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA).
The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has been drawn to a publication in sojworldwide of January 25, 2018, an online news report, entitled: Former MKO Abiola’s running mate, Amb. Babagana Kingibe allegedly receives $2m from Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA).
The report, among others, states that “Revelations have emerged from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on how the former Chairman of the NIA Presidential Panel, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe received the sum of two million US dollars ($2,000,000) against his name from the National Intelligence Agency coffers”.
Ordinarily, we would have dismissed the report with a wave of the hand, but we considered it necessary to do a reply in order to save the general public from being fed with rumours. No EFCC source(s) spoke with sojword.com or any journalist on that matter.
The petition that triggered the NIA investigation detailed alleged roles of certain individuals, and all those individuals are being invited and they are making useful information to the Commission; at the appropriate time, we would do the needful.
We, therefore, urge both the traditional and new media practitioners to eschew rumours and outright lies in the business of informing the public on the activities of the Commission, especially in relationship with the ongoing investigation on the petition in respect of NIA activities.
